Hi,
Should I purchase an extended warranty for my Lexus RX400h for $2,100? I read on Consumer Report that extended warranty is a waste of money, especially on a reliable Lexus. But this is a Hybrid vehicle, in which has the Manufacturer Warranty to 100K for the battery, and 5 year/50,000 powertrain. The extended warranty would only extends the powertrain to 100K, and overlapping the hybrid battery coverage by the manufacturer. The Lexus is 2007 and currently at 33K. Anyone has any problem with their Lexus Hybrid or Toyota Hybrid, if so, how much does it cost them to repair? I heard the battery last up to 150-200K, way past the extended warranty period.
Thanks!

A Lexus can be a realiable vehicle but on occasion you will have one that just doesnt live up to that. As far as the battery warranty goes the “extended warranty” MOST likely wouldnt cover it anyway. A battery is considered a maintenance item and that is the way the contract is written, UNLESS it is written specifically for Hybrid vehicles.
With $2,100 on that extended warranty, how many gallons of fuel can you buy? How much did you paid over the regular price of the non Hybrid? You waste more money in a Hybrid than a regular due to price differences. At the current prices you never get your money back from the energy savings. It would be much cheaper to pay the price at the pump with a regular gas guzzler.
